Canelo Alvarez is set to fight Rocky Fielding for the WBA Super Middleweight World Title. We’ll explain how you can stream Alvarez vs Fielding live online for free, and how you can use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to watch the fight abroad from countries like the US, Canada, France, Germany, and Spain.

How to watch Alvarez vs Fielding live online

Canelo Alvarez will take on Rocky Fielding, the current champion, at Madison Square Garden in New York on December 15. Ring walks are scheduled to start at around 4AM GMT (8PM PST / 11PM EST), but as with any boxing match, this is subject to change. For most people, seeing the fight live is not an option. But that’s no problem; below, we’ll explain how you can stream this fight, and its three undercard matches (David Lemieux vs. Tureano Johnson, Tevin Farmer vs. Francisco Fonseca, and Sadam Ali vs. Mauricio Herrera), live online.

You should note that this post will only recommend official sources. Major events like the Alvarez vs. Fielding fight often have unlicensed streams available but we don’t recommend using them. For one, they’re usually low-resolution and laggy, but there’s also a high probability that the stream will be taken offline before the end of the match.

Best VPN for Alvarez vs. Fielding: ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN best for streaming sports

VPNs enable you to spoof your location and bypass regional restrictions so you can watch geo-blocked events abroad. They also encrypt your traffic, preventing your Internet Service Provider (ISP) from seeing what you do online. We recommend ExpressVPN: it offers high speeds, exceptional multi-platform support, and a network of more than 2,000 servers worldwide. ExpressVPN can even unblock notoriously difficult platforms like Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video.

Signing up couldn’t be simpler. Just choose your desired subscription length (one, six, or twelve months) and complete the payment process. ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can effectively use it for free, short-term coverage. This is particularly useful if you’re going abroad on vacation or want to stream one specific geo-blocked event online; just remember to cancel within 30 days to claim a full refund.

EXCLUSIVE DISCOUNT: ExpressVPN’s one-year plan includes three months extra free and a 49% discount which brings the monthly price down to $6.67.

How to stream Alvarez vs. Fielding abroad with a VPN

Unblocking geo-restricted platforms is easy, even if you’ve never used a VPN before. Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide to streaming Alvarez vs. Fielding from abroad:

  1. The first step is choosing a suitable VPN. We briefly mentioned ExpressVPN above but you might want to consider NordVPN and CyberGhost, two low-cost alternatives.
  2. Next, install the relevant version of the app for your device.
  3. Connect to any of your VPN’s servers in the streaming source location. For example, for DAZN Canada (see below), you would need a Canadian server.
  4. Try loading a video from the source website. You should be able to watch without any issues, but if not, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies, then reloading the page.

We strongly recommend testing your VPN out using the steps above before December 15. This means that if anything doesn’t work as intended, you’ll still have time to get help from your VPN’s customer support team. This is a major fight, after all, so you won’t want to miss any of it.

Where can I live stream Alvarez vs. Fielding?

This fight is to be streamed exclusively on DAZN. The good news is that anyone with a DAZN subscription can watch Alvarez vs. Fielding live, since it’ll be shown in every territory where the service is available (the US, Austria, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Canada, and Italy). Prices vary by location, but as DAZN comes with a one-month trial period, you can watch Alvarez vs. Fielding completely free.

There is a minor issue, though: DAZN has very strict geo-blocking measures in place. At the time of writing, DAZN Canada is the only version of the service accessible by most popular VPNs. Attempting to access any of the others returns this error: “You cannot access DAZN in this region. Sorry. You can watch DAZN in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, Japan, Italy, and U.S.A.” If you’re having difficulty getting connected, we recommend first checking to see if your VPN has any available updates. If this doesn’t help, contact customer support to find out which servers still work.

Can I sign up to DAZN from abroad?

dazn vpn error

Despite having advanced VPN detection features, DAZN actually makes it pretty easy to sign up from abroad. This service allows you to pay with prepaid Visa, MasterCard, JCB, and American Express cards, but the simplest method for most people will be to use PayPal. Most streaming services won’t allow you to use PayPal if it’s not linked to an address in their broadcast area, but DAZN doesn’t have any such restrictions.

It’s worth noting that you don’t even need to have any money in your account to sign up. The first month is free for new subscribers, so as long as you remember to cancel in time, your payment method won’t be charged. If you decide to keep DAZN after the Alvarez fight, it’ll cost $20 CAD per month or $150 CAD per year.

Can I use a free VPN to unblock the Alvarez vs. Fielding fight?

We don’t recommend using free VPNs, and here’s why: these services are often more trouble than they’re worth. They tend to have more users than their servers can support, so you can expect slow browsing speeds, long buffering times, and stuttering video. This means you might miss parts of the Alvarez/Fielding fight, and you may even be forced to watch at a very low resolution. Additionally, even some premium VPNs struggle to unblock DAZN, so free ones are highly unlikely to work.

While free VPNs don’t charge you upfront, they still come at a price. Some insert large, obnoxious ads into the sites you visit, while others offer faster speeds for a monthly fee. By storing tracking cookies on your device, it’s even possible for these services to silently gather information about the sites you visit. Of course, this isn’t collected for no reason: it’s highly valuable data which can be sold on to advertisers later, without your knowledge.

Lastly, it’s difficult to know whether you’re using a legitimate free VPN or not. One study from 2016 showed that popular app marketplaces are home to dozens of Trojans pretending to be free VPNs. Perhaps more worryingly, 18% of apps tested didn’t use any encryption. 84% and 66% were vulnerable to IPv6 and DNS leaks, respectively. A well-known service doesn’t guarantee your safety either; we’ve seen a major free VPN sell user bandwidth for profit before. We recommend using a well-established VPN with a clearly-defined, privacy-focused logging policy.

Who is the favorite to win?

On paper, Saul “Canalo” Alvarez appears to be the superior boxer. He’s been fighting professionally for 13 years and currently stands at 50 wins (34 by knockout) and one loss. He’s a highly versatile athlete, having competed in four different weight classes in his career. By comparison, Fielding has experience in three weight classes, 27 wins (15 by knockout), and a single loss.

However, Fielding does have a couple of characteristics that might swing the odds in his favor. Firstly, he’s taller than Alvarez (6’ 1” vs. 5’ 9”) and has an extra 12” of reach. This, at the very least, makes it more difficult for Alvarez to attack, although as an experienced fighter, he’ll likely have planned for this in advance. Rocky Fielding likes to work the body early, and if enough heavy shots hit Alvarez early on, it’ll be difficult for Alvarez to continue in the later rounds.

Here’s the thing, though: Alvarez is known to be one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. He’s extremely quick and light on his feet, but has proven that he’s capable of trading blows with fighters heavier than himself if need be. Whatever happens in the ring on December 15, it’s sure to be a fantastic match.
