USA

American audiences can catch the entire event on ESPN. This network will show every fixture live, as well as the first women’s International Champions Cup final. Further, each game will be available live, with Spanish commentary, on ESPN Deportes.

To watch online, you’ll need ESPN+. This service is free to use if your cable subscription already includes ESPN, but otherwise, costs $4.99 a month. Canada

Sky Italia is Italy’s only official International Champions Cup broadcaster. It will air live coverage of each fixture both on cable TV and online via Sky Go. Spain

This tournament begins with Manchester City vs. Borussia Dortmund on July 21 and finishes with Atlético de Madrid vs. Internazionale on August 11. Remember: this is an international tournament, so some of the fixtures might start very early in the morning in your location. As a result, you might want to consider using a source which offers full on-demand match replays as well as live streams.

How does the International Champions Cup tournament work?

In some ways, the International Champions Cup is similar to the FIFA World Cup group stages: teams are sorted into groups, with each team playing every other in their respective group. However, there’s one major difference: no game can end in a tie.

Instead, if two teams are tied at the end of extra time, they’ll go to penalties. A win resulting from a penalty shootout is worth two points instead of three, and a loss from penalties is worth one point instead of zero.

Unlike the World Cup, there are no subsequent knockout stages. The team with the most points overall wins the tournament. If multiple teams have the same number of points, a winner is crowned by examining their head-to-head performance and the number of goals they’ve scored.
