American Stipe Miocic faces Cameroonian Francis Ngannou for the men’s heavyweight title in UFC 220 on Saturday, January 20, 2018. No doubt fans from around the world will be scrambling for a way to watch the fights live online. If you’ve got a device that works with Kodi–and chances are you do–then your search is over. Kodi is a free home theater software program that can stream content from a huge range of sources.
Kodi works on Mac, Windows, Android, Linux, set-top streaming boxes, and more. It allows you to control your device with a remote control or gamepad and easily stream video and audio. Just download and install it to get started. After Kodi is installed, you need to install a live-streaming sports add-on and select the channel you want to watch from.
Certain fights are subject to blackout restrictions, even if you have UFC Fight Pass. If you live in a certain country, some or all of the fights won’t be available to you due to regional licensing rights. This workaround solves that problem, too, bypassing any blackout restrictions in your area.
Before we start
Most Kodi users will employ a VPN to prevent ISPs snooping on their activity and to protect from Man in the Middle malware attacks which Kodi users can be vulnerable to. We recommend using a VPN that allows speeds fast enough to view HD or UHD content and which does not log your activity, the most popular VPN with Kodi users is IPVanish.
Reader deal: Save 60% on an IPVanish annual deal or 25% on the monthly plan.
Comparitech does not condone or encourage any violation of copyright restrictions, including illegal streaming through Kodi. Kodi can be used for many excellent, legal online streaming purposes. Please consider the law, victims, and risks of piracy before downloading or streaming copyrighted material without permission.
UFC Fight Pass on Kodi
If you’re already a paid subscriber to UFC Fight Pass, developer Portse has built an add-on that will allow you to stream live UFC fights directly from the official source. The UFC Fight Pass add-on can be found in Portse’s repository, which you can download directly onto your Kodi device from here (open a new tab and insert the link):
https://github.com/portse/plugin.repo.portse/archive/master.zip. The add-on has been tested on Kodi 17 Krypton.
- Once you’ve got the repository zip file on your device, go to Add-ons > Add-on Browser > Install from zip file (note you may need to allow add-ons from unknown sources if you haven’t already)
- Navigate to where you downloaded the zip file and select OK
- You should see a notification indicating the add-on is now enabled
- Go back to Add-ons > Enter add-on browser > Install from repository > portse’s Addon Repository and select plugin.video.ufcfightpass-master.zip
- Once you get the add-on enabled notification, you can find open the UFC Fight Pass add-on from your Video Add-ons menu
You will need your UFC Fight Pass account credentials (email and password) to configure the add-on before use. Note that this add-on is subject to all of the same blackout and other geographic restrictions as all other UFC Fight Pass subscription services, so you might need to connect to a VPN to bypass any geolocked video.
Unofficial Kodi add-ons for live streaming UFC 220
You may see the following add-ons listed in other locations. These add-ons are not recommended by the XBMC Foundation and should be avoided, as they may provide illegal pirated streams for UFC 220 and other live TV content.
- cCloud TV
- Planet MMA
Use a VPN when watching UFC 220
Note that some of these streams will only be available in certain countries or regions. We also cannot vouch for whether individual streams have been sanctioned by broadcasters and the UFC in your country. For these reasons, we strongly recommend you use a VPN when you watch UFC 220 on Kodi.
A VPN encrypts your internet traffic and routes it through a server in a location of your choosing. If the stream you’re watching is only available in the US and you live in the UK, for example, you can set the VPN to New York to unblock the video. If the streaming source is illegal, the encryption and re-routing of your internet traffic will prevent your internet service provider and anyone else from monitoring your internet activity.
Additionally, if you decide to stream through Kodi, you take on the risk of downloading and installing a compromised add-on. Some add-ons can be used for man-in-the-middle style attacks, making them a risk for the users. A good VPN will help prevent this and other privacy-related risks associated third-party Kodi addons.
Finally, to stream live requires a large amount of bandwidth, so you’ll need a good VPN provider with unlimited bandwidth and no data cap.
We recommend IPVanish (60% saving available here), which has a huge range of servers and plentiful capacity so you can watch the entire fight night without having to worry about the video constantly buffering. We can confirm that IPVanish works with all Kodi Addons we’ve tested.
