The world’s best golfers will battle it out at the 2019 British Golf Open (or ‘The Open’ as it is officially called), set to be held at the Royal Portrush golf course in Northern Ireland from July 14th – July 21st. The Claret Jug and a huge $1.5 million purse are up for grabs. While streaming access is limited, you can still watch the British Golf Open on Kodi for free with a combination of the right services and addons.
Important note: Our guide only recommends official Kodi addons. The British Open is one of the world’s 4 major golf tournaments. This means that with limited access, fans may attempt to view the tournament through unofficial streams. However, there are a few official streaming options available which will let you watch the British Open. Official streams are more reliable and don’t compromise your privacy and security.
You can watch parts or all of the British Golf Open in the UK, Canada, Australia, or anywhere else outside of the UK for free, but you may need a VPN. We’ll explain how and which ones work.
Warning: Kodi should only be used for content to which you have the legal right to access. Neither the Kodi Foundation nor Comparitech advocates the use of Kodi for piracy.
How to watch the 2019 British Golf Open on Kodi for free with a VPN
If you live in the US, you can watch the British Golf Open through the Golf Channel (primary broadcasters) and NBC Sports Network and NBC. Several services offer the Golf Channel, NBCSN and NBC streams but a free trial is required if you want to stream for free.
If you live outside the US, it might be possible to access these services by using a VPN. VPNs can help prevent your ISP from snooping on your data and throttling your connection speeds for all users.
To get started with your VPN, do the following:
- Sign up for an account with a trusted VPN service. We recommend using IPVanish. Other solid options to consider are ExpressVPN, NordVPN, or CyberGhost.
- Install your VPN app on the same device where Kodi is installed. It is possible to install a VPN app on your router which would protect all devices on your network. However, the setup process for this can be expensive. We recommend just installing to the device you use Kodi on, such as your Amazon Firestick.
- Connect to a US VPN server. You will need to connect to a US server to access an NBC, NBCSN, or Golf Channel stream.
- Install and stream from the Kodi addon offering Golf Channel, NBCSN, or NBC and the 2019 British Golf Open.
We recommend that you try your VPN and Kodi addon before the British Open. This way, if you encounter difficulties, you will have time to troubleshoot or explore alternatives before the event without having to scramble.
It’s possible to watch the 2019 British Golf Open for free on Kodi. This will require that you sign up for a free trial. NBCSN, Golf Channel, and NBC streams will likely be region-locked. Therefore, you’ll have to use a VPN and connect to a US server to view them if you’re outside of the US.
How to watch the 2019 British Golf Open on Kodi
The 2019 British Golf Open will be broadcast on NBC, NBCSN, and the Golf Channel for viewers in the US. For viewers in the UK, the tournament will be broadcast on Sky Sports. As far as Kodi addons go, however, accessing any of these channels or services through a Kodi addon is your best bet.
PS Vue Kodi addon – Free trial subscription available (US)
Playstation Vue (PS Vue) is a streaming service provided by Sony that is available to US Golf fans. You can access the service using a Kodi addon.
To get started with PS Vue, first head to the PS Vue website and sign up for the Core package. A free 5-day trial is offered. You will be able to access the Golf Channel, NBC Sports Network, and NBC through this package.
After you have created your account, download the PS Vue Kodi addon from the official Kodi addon repository. You will then be able to connect to your account by using the login information you created when initially signing up.
It may be possible to create a PS Vue account from outside the US. This will require that you have a US-based payment method, however. If you do, you might be able to connect to a US VPN server and sign up using your US-based payment method.
Sling TV Kodi addon – Free trial subscription available (US)
Sling TV is an internet streaming TV service similar to PS Vue. You can access NBC, NBC Sports Network, and the Golf Channel when you sign up to Sling TV, even with a 7-day free trial.

British Golf Open – A rich history
The first British Golf Open was played way back in 1860 in Scotland. Around 1863 the purse was about £10 which pales in comparison to the current $1.5 million purse. Fast forward to 2019 and the players’ names may have changed, but the prestige of the tournament remains the same. The defending champion Francesco Molinari will be battling it out against other big names like Rory Mcllroy and Tiger Woods.
