Ransomware gang says it hacked PC maker iBUYPOWER

Ransomware gang Lynx yesterday took credit for a June data breach at gaming PC maker iBUYPOWER and its sister brand, HYTE.

The company on June 25 announced it suffered a cybersecurity incident four days prior.

“iBUYPOWER and HYTE experienced a network security incident on the morning of Saturday, June 21, which resulted in a temporary outage of several internal systems, including phone lines, ERP, production, accounting, RMA, and customer service,” said the announcement posted on Facebook.

Lynx claimed responsibility for the attack on its data leak site. IBUYPOWER has not verified Lynx’s claim. We do not know if iBUYPOWER paid a ransom, how much Lynx demanded, how attackers breached the company’s network, or what data was compromised. Comparitech contacted iBUYPOWER for comment and will update this article if it replies.

“iBUYPOWER and HYTE do not store customer payment information within its network environment,” the company said in its announcement.

Who is Lynx?

Lynx is a spin-off of Inc, another prominent ransomware group. Lynx operates a ransomware-as-a-service scheme in which affiliates pay Lynx to use its malware and infrastructure to launch attacks and collect ransoms.

Lynx started claiming attacks on its data leak site in July 2024. Since then, it’s claimed 28 confirmed ransomware attacks and made 250 attack claims in total.

Yesterday, Greater Providence-Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau (PWCVB) started notifying (PDF) victims of a June 2025 data breach claimed by Lynx.

Lynx’s biggest confirmed attack claim of 2025 to date was on Pacific Residential Mortgage, which notified 35,525 people of a February 2025 data breach.

Ransomware attacks on US tech

Comparitech researchers have logged 11 confirmed ransomware attacks on US tech companies in 2025 to date, plus 126 unconfirmed claims that haven’t been publicly acknowledged by the targeted organizations.

Other recent such attacks include:

  • Ingram Micro reported a July 2025 breach claimed by SafePay caused widespread disruption for several days
  • Cierant Corporation notified 232,,506 people of a December 2024 data breach claimed by Clop
  • IES Communications notified 6,241 people of a March 2025 data breach claimed by Chaos
  • Idealab in October 2024 notified 2,790 people of a data breach claimed by Hunters International

Ransomware attacks on tech companies can lock down computer systems and steal data. Infected businesses must either pay a ransom or face extended downtime, permanent loss of data, and putting customers at increased risk of fraud. In iBUYPOWER’s case, the attack disrupted phone lines, ERP, production, accounting, RMA, and customer service, according to the company.
