How does this show work?

If you’ve ever seen a TV talent show, you’ll have a good idea of how this show works. Contestants first attend an open audition, where they showcase their skills in front of the judges. If a majority of judges think they’re good enough, the dancer then progresses to the next stage. They can also choose to send them directly to the second round; this is called giving them a “ticket to the Academy”.

The second stage (Academy Week) is designed to whittle down the number of dancers from hundreds to around 40. They’re put through a series of challenges designed to assess their ability to adapt to different styles, perform under pressure, and dance in a group.

Stage three is where the competition really begins. The remaining dancers are paired off and asked to perform every week, sometimes twice. The viewers can then vote for the couple they feel was the best, with the two lowest-scoring participants being eliminated. This continues for around eight weeks, until only two dancers remain.
