Kodi Supremacy Addon

What is Kodi?

Setting up a home theater system used to be a time-consuming process, but Kodi makes it easier than ever before. Kodi is a free, open-source software package that can be installed across a wide range of devices including Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs, Android devices, iPhones, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Firestick, Raspberry Pi, and USB flash drives. Best of all, there’s no disparity between devices: almost all plugins that work on PC will also work on mobile platforms.

Warning: Kodi should only be used for content to which you have the legal right to access. Neither the Kodi Foundation nor Comparitech advocates the use of Kodi for piracy.

How to use Kodi safely and privately

Although official addons are usually tested and validated before release, third-party addons generally aren’t tested as rigorously. Once compromised through a Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attack, a hacker would be able to see all of your internet traffic, including login credentials and online banking details.

Because of recently repealed privacy regulations, internet service providers (ISPs) in the US are now allowed to sell their customers’ browsing habits. Additionally, there are several ISPs that have been found to intentionally restrict the internet speeds of paying customers. This is known as throttling and can severely impact your ability to watch videos online.

You can protect yourself from all of the issues above by installing and using a reputable VPN. A VPN encrypts all of your internet traffic, hiding it from anyone without the correct encryption key. We recommend one named IPVanish. It builds and maintains its own server infrastructure, which allows it to provide some of the fastest and most stable connections available.  With servers in over 50 countries, accessing geo-locked content is as simple as connecting to an IPVanish server in the correct location.

IPVanish works with every Kodi addon we’ve tested and works on every device. It’s also the only major VPN with a working app for the Amazon Firestick

What is the Supremacy Kodi addon?

Supremacy menu

Supremacy is a third-party Kodi addon that offers access to both live and on-demand movies and TV shows. It works by gathering links from several different websites and collecting them in one place for easier access. Unlike most of its rivals, it also provides links to 3D and 4K movies.

The main problem with Supremacy is that the majority of its content is unlicensed. There is some public domain content like 1968’s Night of the Living Dead. However, this did not show up in the “Horror” category or even the alphabetical film listings and had to be specifically searched for.

Interestingly, while there is a dedicated 4K movies section, many of the TV shows are only available in standard definition. Considering some shows, particularly the Netflix Original series’, are available in 4K, it’s surprising to see Supremacy offering such low-quality versions. During our testing we also found several series’ with broken links, so not every show on offer is actually available.

There are some live TV channels that are free to watch and to this addon’s credit, they load very quickly. However, the premium channels do not require a login to watch, and with no way to disable specific content providers, it’s clear that this addon caters almost exclusively to users looking for illegitimate sources of content. To find only officially licensed content, a user would have to research each title individually and search for it. This just isn’t a realistic thing to ask of your users.

Kodi users would be better served using official sources; not only is there less likelihood of getting into legal trouble, but the video quality would be higher in most cases.

For the reasons above, we do not recommend that Kodi users install or stream content with Supremacy.

Alternatives to the Supremacy addon

Supremacy has an extensive media library but the majority of it is unlicensed and its content is often only available in standard resolution. Kodi users looking to watch licensed content would be better served by one of the many official TV and movie Kodi addons. The addons below offer access to similarly sized libraries of content while being more reliable and completely legal to use.

Tubi TV

TubiTV Kodi addon

Tubi TV is a free, ad-supported streaming service. The service is noted for having a library size that matches the likes of Netflix and Amazon. While a good portion of its content is B-movies and TV shows, the service also has hundreds of titles that are highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes.

Its content is also geographically locked into three different regions: US, Canada, and the UK. Each region has varying content, so you’ll need to connect to IPVanish or another functional VPN to get all of its available content. Even better, when you run Tubi TV through Kodi, the ads are filtered out completely.

FilmOn.TV is a service that allows you to access live TV and radio stations over the internet. There are a multitude of different categories including movies, horror, and comedy. Channels are also grouped by country so that you can easily find content in the language you speak.

The FilmOn.TV Kodi addon also offers a small selection of on-demand content for those times when you can’t find anything to watch. While a basic subscription is free, you can increase the range of accessible channels by paying for a premium membership ($20 per month), but this is entirely optional.

Note: some people experience an issue where streams never load. If this happens, just right-click the FilmOn.TV icon, select Settings, then change FilmOn Quality to Low. This does mean that you won’t be able to watch in HD but most of the free channels are in standard definition anyway.

The FilmOn.TV Kodi is available in several repositories.

PlayOn Browser

The PlayOn Browser addon doesn’t actually provide any content on its own. Instead, it gathers TV shows and movies from your existing video subscription services or any website that hosts accessible streaming video and allows you to watch them directly through Kodi. As there is no official Netflix or Amazon Prime Video Kodi addon, PlayOn is the safest, most reliable way to access this content in Kodi.

There is a small selection of sources including YouTube and VH1 that you can view for free, but paying $2.50 a month allows you to record shows from additional sources as they air. Recordings are saved in the highly portable MP4 format so that you can play them on almost any device. You’ll also gain the ability to automatically skip ads on service that include them.

The Playon Browser Kodi addon can be found in the official Kodi addon repository.

FilmRise – YouTube

FilmRise is an independent distributor of films and TV shows. There are two addons that provide access to their content: FilmRise and FilmRise – YouTube. The first of these offers six TV shows but FilmRise – YouTube also collects the videos from FilmRise’s YouTube accounts. As a result, it has a far larger media library and is the superior addon.

This addon is completely legal and contains hundreds of movies, as well as full seasons of long-running TV shows. Titles are categorized by genre and there are even playlists of shows with dozens of episodes. Unfortunately, there’s no way to search for a particular movie or show, but since most of the movies FilmRise own aren’t well known, this functionality wouldn’t help much anyway.

The FilmRise – Youtube Kodi addon can be found in the official Kodi addon repository.

Overview and privacy concerns

By prioritizing unlicensed content and making it difficult to find titles that are legal to watch, Supremacy removes any semblance of legitimacy that it might have had. There are many other Kodi addons that not only provide similarly sized content libraries, but also allow you to support the actors and studios that create the content in the first place.

As a third-party addon, Supremacy is less likely to have been extensively tested during development than an official addon, and this becomes apparent when you use it. There are several menu options simply named “test” or something similar. When the security of your system is at risk, this kind of thing is a warning sign. If the developers left test code active, there’s no telling what vulnerabilities may be in the code itself This leaves the door open to malicious third-parties seeking to access your computer.

When you look at Supremacy as a whole, it becomes clear that it’s far less attractive than it appears at first glance. We recommend Kodi users looking to watch TV shows or movies use one of the addons we discussed above instead of Supremacy. They’re not only fully legal, but more secure, and they provide a high quality of video too.
