Formula One begins its 2018 season with the Australian Grand Prix on March 25. Last year, Lewis Hamilton held off Sebastian Vettel to win the championship. Who will win the championship this year? If you want to find out without subscribing to cable, you’ll need to know how to watch F1 live streaming online or on Kodi. This article will explain how.
What is Kodi?
Kodi is a free software media player that allows users to stream TV and movies from the Internet without needing a web browser or app. It also can be used to play files stored on a user’s device. Kodi can be installed on Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, Android or iOS smartphone, PC, Mac, Raspberry Pi, or Odroid. It can be controlled using an RF remote or smartphone app.

Warning: Kodi should only be used for content to which you have the legal right to access. Neither the Kodi Foundation nor Comparitech advocates the use of Kodi for piracy.
When you stream video online, always use a VPN
Whenever you stream video online, you should always protect your privacy by using a VPN. Your Internet service provider may also throttle your speed if it knows you are streaming video, but a VPN encrypts your data, preventing your ISP seeing your activities. Streaming video sites may also want to block you from viewing certain content if they know your location. A VPN hides this information by letting you choose an IP address from many different countries.
Not all VPNs are good for streaming video. While all VPNs will slow your Internet speed a little, some are too slow to stream high-def video without constant buffering. Many do not have servers in enough countries to unlock most blocked content. Most do not have apps for popular TV devices like Nvidia Shield or Amazon Fire Stick. In addition, some VPNs invade the privacy of users by keeping logs of their behavior.
For these reasons, we at Comparitech recommend IPVanish to users who watch TV and movies online. In our testing, IPVanish streamed 1080p video without buffering. It has servers in over 60 countries. It has an app for both Nvidia Shield and Amazon Fire Stick. It keeps no logs.

How to watch F1 live streaming online
Depending on where you live and whether you are willing to pay for a premium service, there are multiple options to see Formula 1 racing online, using a web browser.
If you are located in Switzerland (or are connected to a Swiss VPN server), you can see the British Grand Prix, the final F1 race of the year, and about half of the F1 season on the U.K.’s BBC Channel 4. This channel is available on a free streaming video site called Zattoo. To get started, navigate to the official Zattoo website and create an account using a name and email address. An advertisement will play when you first open the Zattoo player and when you change channels.
If you are accessing the Internet from outside Switzerland, you will get an error message saying that Zattoo is not available. A VPN will help bypass Zatto’s location blocker.
If you live in the U.K., you can watch the Channel 4 F1 races on TVPlayer, an over-the-top TV service that is supported with ad revenue. In order to do so, just navigate to TVPlayer.com and sign up for an account using a name and email address.
Although TV Player does not take any steps to verify that its users have a TV License, it is a violation of U.K. law to watch BBC channels online without having such a TV License, which costs £145.50/year. If you are traveling outside of the U.K., you will need a VPN to get around geoblocks.

Another option for U.K. residents is to subscribe to Sky Sports F1, which costs £18/month. Unlike Channel 4, Sky Sports shows all of the F1 races, not just half of them. It also shows the races in high-definition. You must have a U.K. credit card or bank account to sign up for Sky Sports. If you are traveling outside of the U.K., you will need a VPN to get around geoblocks.
The official website for SkySports is here.
If you live in the U.S. and have a cable service that includes ESPN, you can watch all of the Formula 1 races on ESPN.com. If you don’t have cable, you can get a package that includes ESPN from Sling TV, PS Vue, DIRECTV NOW, or FuboTV for between $20-$39.99.
If you live in Canada and have a cable subscription that includes TSN, you can watch F1 racing on your mobile phone or laptop by navigating to tsn.ca and logging in with your cable provider.
Unfortunately, there are no official F1 racing streams from within Canada available without a cable subscription.

How to watch F1 live streaming on Kodi
If you have a TV streaming device, such as the Amazon Fire Stick or Apple TV, you may want to use Kodi instead of a web browser to watch F1 racing. If this is the case, here are your options.
Zattoo Box Kodi addon
The Zattoo Box Kodi addon lets you connect to your Zattoo account without a web browser. It also bypasses the Zattoo advertisements (there will still be advertisements from the channels themselves). To install it, load Kodi and then click addons → download → video addons → Zattoo Box. This will open the information screen for Zattoo Box. Click install to finish installing.
When you use Zattoo Box for the first time, right-click the addon and click settings. Input your Zattoo username and password into the fields provided. Click OK, then open to get to the main menu. The Channel 4 stream can be accessed from the LiveTV – all channels menu.
ESPN3 Kodi addon
The ESPN3 Kodi addon lets you stream content from ESPN.com using Kodi. To install it, load Kodi and then click addons → download → video addons → ESPN3 → install. The first time you try to watch a video using the ESPN3 Kodi addon, you will be redirected to a website where you can input your TV provider’s login info. After that, videos should play whenever you click them.
