If you’ve been hit with a Rocket League ban, you’ve probably been found, rightly or wrongly, to have broken the game’s Code of Conduct. You may feel the ban is unfair or that a mistake has been made. As such, it’s well worth appealing the ban. However, another option is using a VPN to bypass a Rocket League ban.
With a Virtual Private Network (VPN), you can connect to a server in your preferred location and temporarily change your IP address. With your true IP address and location hidden, you can bypass restrictions on content. These restrictions may be due to copyright and licensing issues, network constraints or an account ban, as with Rocket League. A VPN also offers numerous security benefits thanks to its encryption of your internet traffic.
In this post, we’ll explain exactly how to bypass a Rocket League ban with a VPN and list the best VPNs for the job. We’ll start with a quick shortlist of our top picks, scroll down for more detailed reviews of each.

How to get unbanned from Rocket League with an appeal
While a VPN allows you to bypass a Rocket League ban by creating a new account using a different IP address, it may be that you prefer to continue using your main account. In this case, your best bet is to appeal the ban. Besides, appealing a ban ensures you’re not going against the Epic Games Terms of Use.
Here’s how to appeal a Rocket League ban:
- Go to the Epic Games Support page and log in with your platform account.
- Open the Unban Appeal form and enter a subject. For example, “Ban appeal”.
- Enter the required information. This includes your full name, country, email address, and platform.
- In the Description field, you’ll want to provide a brief explanation of the situation and the reason for your appeal. When finished, click submit.
- Now all that’s left to do is to wait. You should receive a reply within a few days.
Hopefully, your appeal will be successful, but there’s no guarantee, so read on for another way to bypass a Rocket League ban.
How to get unbanned from Rocket League with a VPN
You may find that your ban appeal is rejected. It may even be that you don’t receive a reply. Whatever the case, a VPN can help you get unbanned from Rocket League, albeit through the use of a new account. Better still, this is something that’s quick and easy to do.
Here’s how to bypass a Rocket League ban using a VPN:
- To get started, sign up with a VPN that’s able to bypass Rocket League bans. We particularly recommend NordVPN.
- You can now download and install the VPN’s Windows app if you’re on PC. If you’re a console player, you have the option of manually setting up the VPN on your router.
- Before using the VPN, uninstall Rocket League and delete all related Rocket League files to ensure that there’s no saved data related to your banned IP address.
- Restart your device and log in to the VPN app. You can now connect to a server in your preferred location. This is how you receive a new IP address.
- Now you can download the game again and make a fresh installation. Your account should have a completely different username and email address to avoid detection.
- You should now be unbanned from Rocket League. We recommend you take a look at Rocket League’s Code of Conduct to reduce the risk of receiving another ban.

Methodology: How we found the best VPNs for getting unbanned from Rocket League
It can be frustrating not to be able to play your favorite games. This is particularly the case if the ban is undeserved or in error. To help, we sifted through the many VPNs on the market, looking for those that offer the following:
- Servers worldwide: The best VPNs offer networks that cover dozens of countries around the world, including the US and Canada. This makes it that much easier for you to bypass bans and blocks. Another benefit is that you should always be able to find a server close to your physical location for the fastest possible speeds.
- Speed: We know that online gaming requires a consistent connection. Our speed tests identified the fastest VPNs, all of which offer unlimited bandwidth. As a result, you’ll be able to play Rocket League lag-free. In fact, you’ll also be able to stream content in 1080p HD and even 4K without having to worry about performance issues.
- Unblocking: You may need a VPN for more than getting unbanned from Rocket League. For example, you might find that your favorite streaming service or social media platform is region-locked when traveling abroad. We test each VPN against various websites and services to make sure it holds up in the face of restrictions.
- Security: If you don’t want other gamers to know your IP address (and potentially find out your identity), it’s important to use a VPN. You receive a different IP address while your data is encrypted and secured from hackers and snoopers. Note that we also look for each VPN to offer a kill switch and protection from DNS leaks.
- Privacy: Having looked at 140 VPN logging policies, we know which VPNs protect your privacy as well as which don’t. Believe it or not, some VPNs (particularly free services) log your data and sell it to third parties. Of course, this compromises your ability to maintain online anonymity. The best VPNs each offer a strict no-logs policy.
- Ease of use: The easier a VPN is to use, the quicker you can get unbanned from Rocket League. That’s why we’ve used each VPN ourselves to ensure it provides beginner-friendly apps as well as quality customer support. There should also be handy setup guides, particularly if you’re installing a VPN on your router.
- Value for money: You can find VPN subscriptions at all price points. The longer the subscription, the more you can generally save each month. Another way you can get a better deal is to take advantage of the VPN discount coupons we’ve provided. Better still, know that the VPNs in this post come with money-back guarantees.
With our VPN testing methodology, we can find out for ourselves if a VPN truly offers all of the above. We do this through hands-on testing in areas including speed and security.
What are the different types of bans in Rocket League?
Whether you’ve already been banned or you’re keen to avoid a ban in the future, it’s helpful to know the different types of bans in Rocket League:
Temporary matchmaking ban
The first player to abandon a competitive match receives an automatic 5-minute matchmaking ban. Leaving a second match within a 12-hour period results in a 10-minute matchmaking ban. The more competitive matches are abandoned, the longer the ban. This can climb to be as long as 24 hours.
Tournament ban
Quitting a competitive tournament results in a 15-minute matchmaking ban. The player also has to forfeit all of the rewards of that tournament. Quitting early can result in 24-hour and 7-day tournament bans, as well as 24-hour matchmaking bans.
Harassment ban
Epic Games states that the use of “racial slurs, hate speech, or other toxic language” in Rocket League results in a game ban of 72 hours. A second offense results in a one-week ban, while repeat offenses can lead to a permanent game ban.
Offensive language, such as curse words, can result in chat and/or game bans. Chat bans start at 24 hours and can go up to one month but don’t include Quick Chat. They can also progress to become game bans.
Account ban
A full account ban can be temporary or permanent and results in the loss of access to in-game items and currencies as well as online features. Bans are shared across all linked accounts.
Rocket League Ban: FAQs
Can I use a free VPN to get unbanned from Rocket League?
Unfortunately, most free VPNs won’t get you unbanned from Rocket League. The average free VPN has only a small network of servers and a limited number of IP addresses. Many of these IP addresses become blacklisted as other users also try to bypass bans. Even if you were lucky enough to find an IP address that worked, the bandwidth cap of a free VPN would make online gaming almost impossible. High ping usually results in heavy lag.
Some free VPNs may not properly encrypt your data, leaving you exposed to hackers and snoopers. If you want to be protected from threats including DDoS attacks, you’ll need a VPN with military-grade encryption, DNS leak protection, and a kill switch. Note that some free VPNs (and even some paid VPNs such as UFO VPN in 2020) have been known to keep logs. To maintain online anonymity, use a VPN that operates a strict no-logs policy instead.
Is it legal to use a VPN to bypass a Rocket League ban?
Unless VPNs are illegal in your country, you’re not breaking any laws when you use a VPN to bypass a Rocket League ban. However, it does go against the Terms of Use of Psyonix, the developer of the game. As such, the best course of action is to appeal your Rocket League ban before resorting to using a VPN to bypass it. Otherwise, you do run the risk of getting caught using a VPN and potentially receiving a lengthier ban as a result.
How long do Rocket League bans last?
The length of a Rocket League ban depends on the offense in question. For example, a harassment ban starts at 72 hours while a second harassment offense results in a one week ban. However, persistent offenders may receive a permanent ban from the game. There are also chat bans which can be anything from 24 hours to one month. A chat ban can also become a full game ban. Note that temporary matchmaking bans (when a player abandons a match) are typically for five minutes at a time but these are accumulative.
