A VPN can get you into TF1 from abroad by making it look as though you are in France even though you are not. Express VPNSep 2019Unblocks TF1Tested Sep 2019

ExpressVPN is one of the easiest VPN services to use. You don’t need to know anything at all about technology in order to get this system working on your computer. The service is available for Windows, macOS, Mac OS X, Linux, iOS, and Android. You can install ExpressVPN on certain routers, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Amazon Fire TV, and Kindle Fire tablets.

ExpressVPN is fast and reliable enough for live streaming. This is important because if a VPN slows down a transmission, it might result in lost connections, pauses for buffering, and picture pixelation due to poor traffic management when the video stream travels to your computer.

When you connect to an online TV service, that video streaming server is going to check where you are in order to decide whether you qualify to watch. These location checks often include scans for VPN activity. ExpressVPN is able to avoid detection at some of the most comprehensive location and VPN checks, so it will get you into TF1.

The company runs servers in three locations in France, which should help alleviate any traffic surges that occur during the event. It has an excellent customer support team and you can get help online via live chat around the clock.

You can access the ExpressVPN service on three devices all at once. That means that you can have an active connection on your home computer, on a mobile device, and on a laptop all at the same time. If you activate the VPN on your router, that counts as just one connection even though it will cover all of the devices in your home.

Pros:

  • Operates amazingly fast servers in Paris and Strasbourg
  • Easily unblocks TF1 and other streaming services from abroad, including Netflix France
  • Server speeds are great for HD streaming and fast downloads
  • High-end security features with good privacy protection
  • Connect up to 3 devices at the same time
  • Offers 24/7 live chat

  • Can only connect 3 devices at once

NordVPN is a great service for TV streaming from anywhere in the world. The company has 5,111 servers in 60 countries, including France. The company operates 189 servers in France, where users can take advantage of a double VPN option and extra obfuscation if they wish. The speeds that NordVPN achieves are fast enough to stream video over the internet. Those extra security measures make NordVPN a particularly good service if you are in a country with a very restricted internet service, such as China or Iran.

Can I use a free VPN for TF1?

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to watch TF1 over the internet by using a free VPN. This is because the process of getting past regional restrictions and proxy detection is a complicated procedure and companies that can achieve those goals have to invest a lot of money in special equipment and bespoke programs in order to keep in the game.

It’s great to get stuff for free. However, those companies that don’t make money off a subscription try to earn an income by other routes. Those free VPNs are sometimes honey traps to lure in people to hand over their personal data, which the VPN provider then sells to advertisers. You can also expect constant advertising with free VPN services; many even inject ads straight into your browser.

Speeds tend to be much slower than paid VPNs, data and bandwidth caps are common, and server selection is much more limited.

Speeds for live streaming TF1

VPN companies need to invest a lot in order to get fast connections and free services just can’t afford those expenses. Netflix recommends a connection speed of 5 Megabits per second to prevent stuttering and buffering while watching HD video. But Netflix’s on-demand videos are optimized for streaming. Live streams don’t have time to compress the video, so they are not as efficient as on-demand streams. Watching a live stream typically requires much more bandwidth than an on-demand stream of equal quality.

The services in our list of the best VPNs for streaming TF1 all exceed this requirement, as you can see in the graph below.

Why won’t TF1 let me watch from abroad?

TF1 must pay for the content that it shows and it only buys the rights to show entertainment in France. Content licensing restrictions apply to the device that views the entertainment, not the location of the video streaming server nor the user’s home or billing address. So, when TF1 signs contracts to show video in France, it must take steps to ensure people outside France can’t access video on its site.

TF1 speed test

So, if you try to access TF1 from outside of France, the video player screen will be black and show nothing but the error message, “Ce contenu est indisponible dans votre région.

TF1 regional restrictions

In English, that means “This content is not available in your area.”

The obligation to limit access to content extends to blocking VPNs and other methods that enable the general public to bypass such restrictions. TF1, like most other online TV services, invests heavily in VPN detection systems. Because of VPN detection, not many VPNs can get you into TF1.

All of the VPNs on our list above can bypass TF1’s proxy detection systems.

How to watch TF1 online

The TF1 video streaming page can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Click here to access TF1 online.

Before you can watch videos or streams on the site:

  1.       Subscribe to a VPN and install the app on your device.
  2.       Select a server in France, and connect to the VPN.
  3.       Switch off any ad blockers for the TF1 website.
  4.       Set up a MyTF1 account.

Here are details of these steps in more detail.

1.      Subscribe to a VPN

Any of the VPNs on our list will serve you well to get into the TF1 video service. After you pay for the VPN of your choice, you will need to download the client software. An installer will do all the work necessary to set up a VPN client configured to work with all of your provider’s servers. The installer will also create a shortcut on your Desktop.

When you want to watch TF1, you must make sure that the VPN is connected to a server in France. Once that connection is established, open the TF1 website. If you already have it open and see the message telling you that you can’t watch the content from your location, refresh the page once the VPN is running.

2.     Switch off any ad blockers

The TF1 website doesn’t play well with ad blockers. When you are at the TF1 website, turn your ad blocker off if you use one. Refresh the page if necessary.

3.     Set up a MyTF1 account

The MyTF1 service is free and it doesn’t matter where you are when you set up an account. So you won’t require an address in France or payment details. The account creation page doesn’t check on your location and you will not be asked for your home address.

To register a MyTF1 account:

  1. Reach the account page either by trying to play a video without being logged in, which will direct you to login or create an account, or by clicking on the blue Se Connecter button in the site’s menu bar.
  2. In the popup that appears, click on Créer un compte.
  3. Enter an email address and a password and then press the Continuer button. It must be a valid email account to which you have access because you will be sent an activation link to complete the registration process.

If you don’t want to give TF1 your real email address, you can set up a burner email account with an online webmail service. Mailinator is great for that sort of thing.

If you don’t want to bother with the email route, you can set up an account through Facebook. In this instance, just click on the Continuer avec Facebook button. If your browser has stored your Facebook credentials, the TF1 account creation process will proceed without any further intervention from you. If you don’t have your credentials stored in your browser, you will need to enter your Facebook username and password in the next window. You get access to the video player straight away without having to go through any identity validation steps.

Watching TF1 anywhere

You can watch TF1 online year-round with a VPN. The great thing about the VPNs on our list is that they can be installed on mobile devices as well as routers and computers. That means, as long as you are in a place with internet, you can continue to watch TF1. This is great news if you have a long commute, or if you get bored in a café or hotel lobby.

VPNs work all over the world and when you subscribe to one, you get the right to use it anywhere, not just in the country where you were when you subscribed. So, when you travel to other countries, your VPN will still get you into TF1.

Do you already use a VPN to watch TF1 from abroad? Do you use a VPN that isn’t on our list? If you are already a subscriber to the services that we list, what is your opinion of that VPN? Leave a message in the comments section below and let us know about your experience.
