Important: Always use a VPN with Kodi

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are often viewed as a gateway for private, unlicensed video streaming. However, all Kodi users should use a VPN, including people who only stream from official sources.

A VPN allows you to keep your Internet speed high and prevent buffering if your ISP engages in speed throttling. It also unlocks content that streaming services may be hiding behind a geographic block. In addition, it may help to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.

However, not all VPNs are equally effective at dealing with these problems. Some VPNs keep logs of users’ data that could potentially be stolen by hackers. Others are too slow to handle the high-definition video required by Kodi users. Still others are hard to install, having no native apps for popular TV devices.

For these reasons, we recommend Kodi users take advantage of IPVanish. IPVanish has over 950 servers, keeping speeds high and videos buffer-free. It has a native app for Amazon Fire TV and Nvidia Shield, and it keeps no logs of users’ activities.

READER DEAL: Save 60% on IPVanish

Warning: Kodi should only be used for content to which you have the legal right to access. Neither the Kodi Foundation nor Comparitech advocates the use of Kodi for piracy.

There are many Kodi addons you can use to get free, legal movies. Ultimately, which addon you should install or use depends on the movies you would like to see. In some cases, you may be better off installing addons that require a subscription fee rather than using a free service. This is most often the case when you want to watch newer movies that are very popular.

However, even if you decide to use a fee-based service, at least these free addons are available as a backup.
