How to watch Group F world cup

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is about to enter its group stage. In this article, we’ll be explaining how you can watch every Germany, Mexico, Sweden, and South Korea game live and in HD online. Note that you’re not limited to your country’s official streams; with a Virtual Private Network (VPN), you can bypass regional blocking and access foreign streaming services. This means you can watch all Group F games from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, or anywhere else in the world. In addition to telling you how to stream World Cup matches, we’ll be including a fun fact about each competing team to test your sporting knowledge.

It’s worth mentioning that lots of unofficial World Cup streams will be available. However, these are usually unreliable and may be taken offline partway through. There are plenty of official broadcasters showing the games for free, so there’s really no need to run the risk of going with an unofficial stream.

Streaming the Russia World Cup: Use a VPN

Streaming platforms usually only have the rights to show content in specific countries. This is why services like Netflix have different libraries for the UK and US. However, you can trick a website into granting you access by connecting to one of your VPN’s servers in the required location. For instance, a British server might unblock BBC iPlayer, while an American one could unblock NBC Sports.

How to watch FIFA World Cup Group F games from a competing country

Understandably, countries that have qualified for the group stage are excited about the prospect of winning the World Cup. As such, it’s going to be heavily covered by official broadcasters across the world, meaning that in most cases, it’s fairly straightforward to watch each game from within one of the qualifying countries.

Germany

German viewers can watch every game of the tournament for free and in HD on ZDF or ARD. Additionally, Sky Sport is offering subscribers access to 4K streams. This service costs €29.99 a month, but daily and weekly passes are also available in case you only want to follow a specific team.

All of the above sources will have German commentary.

Fun fact: Germany’s star striker Thomas Müller makes around 35 million Euros a year by advertising yogurt.

Mexico

Televisa will be broadcasting the entire World Cup for free on its TV channels, but it lacks an online live stream. TV Azteca, however, will dedicate its Azteca 7 channel to round-the-clock World Cup coverage. Sky México is also showing each game, but only to subscribers. Prices start at Mex$509 per month, but there will be no 4K streams.

All three Mexican sources will provide Spanish commentary.

Did you know? Mexico holds the record for most group stage eliminations. Let’s hope they don’t add to their lead this year!

Sweden

SVT and TV4 are Sweden’s official World Cup broadcasters, showing at least 48 of the 64 games between them. SVT can be watched for free online, but TV4’s online streams are only accessible via a subscription service called C More. Prices for the latter service start at 109 kr per month.

SVT and TV4 will have commentary in Swedish.

Interesting statistic: Sweden’s best World Cup was in 1994, where they came second. While it didn’t win, they did manage to become that tournaments’s top scorers.

South Korea

MBC, KBS, and SBS (not to be confused with the Australian SBS) are all licensed to show World Cup 2018 games in South Korea. While all of these platforms will show each game on their respective TV channels, there doesn’t appear to be any way to stream these legitimately online.

A little trivia: South Korea and Japan co-hosted the World Cup in 2002. While playing against Turkey in that tournament, South Korea conceded a goal in under 11 seconds — the quickest goal in an official international tournament.

How to watch World Cup Group F games from abroad

More than 100 countries have paid for broadcasting rights to the 2018 World Cup. As a result, you’ll find that most countries have several different ways to watch each game. Below, we’ve included sources for a few selected regions, but if your country isn’t mentioned, you can check out this list of official broadcasters.

UK

In the UK, BBC and ITV will each be covering half of the tournament’s matches. This means that every World Cup game will be freely available on either BBC iPlayer or ITV Hub. These services are free to use, although BBC iPlayer might ask whether you have a UK TV License. That said, you won’t be asked to provide any further details.

The BBC have been improving their VPN-detection measures lately, so many VPNs which previously worked are now blocked. Your VPN provider should be able to tell you if it can unblock the iPlayer, or if there’s a particular server you should use to do so.

ITV and BBC coverage is available solely in English.

USA

FOX Sports will be showing every 2018 World Cup match. You can watch for free if FOX Sports is included in your cable or Sling TV package, but otherwise, you can pick up a soccer pass for $19.99 a month.

Telemundo Deportes will be making its coverage available to NBC Sports subscribers. Currently, there are no details about the pricing or release date of the World Cup pass. That said, the group stage is fast approaching, so we can expect an announcement to be made shortly.

FOX Sports will provide English commentary, while Telemundo Deportes will be in Spanish.

Australia

SBS has confirmed that it will be broadcasting 25 of the World Cup’s 64 matches for free. This includes every game featuring the Australian national team. While these games will definitely be shown on TV, it’s currently unclear if they’ll be streamed online as well.

If you’re looking to watch every game, you can sign up to Optus Sports. This is included in some Optus mobile and broadband packages, but non-customers can watch by paying A$15 for Optus’ premium plan.

FIFA World Cup 2018: FAQs

Do I need a VPN if my country has a free live stream?

VPNs are primarily used to increase your online security. Their ability to bypass region-locking is just a very useful secondary function. Even if you don’t need to access foreign platforms, VPNs can help you prevent hackers or your Internet Service Provider (ISP) from monitoring your activities. This is particularly helpful when watching live HD video, since ISPs have been known to throttle connections in an attempt to discourage high-bandwidth streaming.

What is the World Cup group stage?

The group stage is where the teams that survived the initial knockout rounds in 2015 compete against each other. These teams gain points for winning or drawing matches, and after six games, the two teams with the most points are moved through to the second knockout stage.

A single loss in this second knockout stage means elimination. Teams will continue to play until the World Cup Final on July 15, when one team will be crowned the 2018 World Cup Champions.

Can I watch World Cup matches on mobile?

Many of the platforms and channels we’ve mentioned in this post have apps for Android and iOS. As most VPNs allow multiple simultaneous connections, you don’t even have to logout of your primary device. It’s worth noting, however, that mobile streaming apps may not offer the full spectrum of functionality that their respective web player does.
