Not only is the Xbox One a great gaming system, it’s also an excellent device for streaming video. One way to get the most from it as a streaming video player is to install Kodi on Xbox One. Kodi originally started as an app for the Xbox (it was originally known as XBMC, or Xbox Media Center), making the Kodi Xbox app a must-have.
This article will explain how to install Kodi on Xbox One, provide a list of best Xbox One Kodi builds, and explore the best Kodi addons for Xbox One.
What is Kodi?
Kodi is an open-source streaming media player from the Kodi Foundation. It allows users to stream video from across the Internet, without relying on a web browser or proprietary apps. As a result, Kodi can often be used to bypass spammy advertisements when watching online TV shows or movies. In addition to the Xbox One, Kodi can also be installed on Amazon Fire Stick, Nvidia Shield, Apple TV, Android, iOS, PC, or Mac.
Warning: Kodi should only be used for content to which you have the legal right to access. Neither the Kodi Foundation nor Comparitech advocates the use of Kodi for piracy.
Warning: always use a VPN with Kodi
Streaming video carries some risks to your privacy and security. This is true whether you use Kodi or other software on your Xbox One to stream video. Your ISP may log information about what shows or movies you are watching and where you are streaming them from. It may also throttle your speed if it thinks you are using too much bandwidth while watching online videos. This may cause buffering and other issues with performance.
The best way to protect yourself against these problems is to use a VPN whenever you stream video or use the Internet. A VPN encrypts your data, making it extremely difficult for your ISP or hackers to know what you are doing. This helps to prevent your ISP from keeping logs of your activity and hackers from gaining access to your personal information.
By default, installing a VPN on Xbox One is difficult. However, our recommended option for Kodi users across the board is IPVanish, as it meets the necessary criteria we use when rating VPNs for Kodi. Our guide on Xbox VPNs should help you figure out how to install it on your Xbox One.

Why is the splash screen different, and what is Kodi 18 Leia?
If you’ve used Kodi on other devices, you may be surprised by the splash screen that displays when it first starts up on the Xbox One. The reason the splash screen is different is because the Xbox One uses Kodi 18 Leia Beta, an experimental version of Kodi. This is different from the Kodi 17.6 Krypton found in Google Play Store, for example.
There may be a few bugs remaining in this version of the program. Still, most users have found Kodi 18 Leia Beta to be perfectly stable for normal, everyday use. The official, stable version of Kodi 18 Leia is expected to be released by the end of the year.
Now that you’ve got Kodi installed, it’s time to look at a few builds that are compatible with Xbox One.

Xbox One Kodi builds
Kodi builds are a way to configure your copy of Kodi all at once, without having to change skins, menu options, and other settings, and without having to install additional addons. The big advantage to installing a build is that it allows you to personalize Kodi. However, one disadvantage is that builds often install copyright-infringing addons that could pose a security risk.
If you do choose to use a Kodi build for Xbox One, we recommend you uninstall most of the addons that come with it and install your own. The following section will recommend some addons we think are useful and fairly safe.
