- Bangladesh’s internet is slowly becoming more free but censorship is still rife and there are harsh penalties for saying things the government doesn’t like.
- The best way to stay safe online in Bangladesh is to use a VPN, ideally one with anti-censorship tools and a proven no-logging policy.
- I’ve tested almost 80 leading providers in a bid to find the best VPNs for Bangladesh.
- NordVPN is my first choice for users in Bangladesh. It boasts an extensive set of security tools, high-speed servers, and first-class streaming abilities. Better yet, all plans come with a risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee.
The Awami League might not be in power in Bangladesh anymore, but it takes a long time to dismantle state-backed systems of oppression. Journalists and activists still have to contend with vaguely-worded laws designed to criminalize dissent, and many impartial news sources remain blocked. If you live in Bangladesh or are planning a trip abroad, I strongly suggest using a VPN to protect yourself and stay safe online.
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) enhance your privacy by encrypting your traffic, rendering it unreadable. This encrypted data is then sent through a server in another location, changing your IP address and hiding your real location from whoever owns the website you’re visiting. As such, they’re essential privacy tools but can also be used to access geo-restricted platforms like your online banking service or favorite streaming app.
In this article, I’ll list my highest-rated VPNs for Bangladeshi users and explain how to use them. I review each provider in detail later on, but if you’re short on time, here’s a quick summary.
The best VPNs for Bangladesh:
- NordVPN My top choice for Bangladesh. Delivers fast speeds and refuses to compromise on privacy. A zero-logs VPN with the ability to access virtually any streaming app. Includes a 30-day money-back guarantee.
TIP In our testing we found that the cheapest NordVPN plan (Standard) works perfectly for Bangladesh. - Surfshark The best low-cost VPN for anyone in Bangladesh. It’s very strong on security, has no connection limit, and easily bypasses extreme digital censorship. An excellent choice for everyday usage.
- Total VPN A quick and reliable VPN with servers in Bangladesh and 80+ other countries. Strong on security, with a no-logs policy and novice-friendly apps.
- ProtonVPN This speedy VPN has servers in 120 countries and delivers a very high level of customization. Powerful security tools, automatic tracker blocking, and 24/7 live chat.
- ExpressVPN Speedy servers, automatic obfuscation, and a strong record on privacy. No issues accessing geo-blocked sites abroad. Doesn’t keep logs.
- IPVanish A newcomer-friendly VPN with a growing network of self-owned servers. No connection limit and no logs. Offers 24/7 support via live chat.
- CyberGhost This user-friendly provider has servers designed for streaming, torrenting, and privacy. Boasts high speeds and a strong security offering.
- PureVPN Zero-logs provider boasting a large network and the ability to access just about any geo-blocked service. Very easy to use, with 24/7 support and apps for all platforms.
- PrivateVPN Originally made for torrenters and P2P file sharers, this VPN is also great for streaming. Solid security and privacy settings.
Many VPNs claim to protect your privacy and offer a fast, reliable connection but most (especially free VPNs) limit your connection speed or leak information.
We regularly test the top 70 VPNs for security and speed and this list only includes VPNs which are fast, reliable and are highly rated for privacy and security. Plus we only recommend VPNs which offer a full-money back guarantee allowing you to try them risk free.

Criteria: how I found the best Bangladesh VPNs
It’s not enough to simply identify VPNs that work in Bangladesh; I wanted to find out which were the best for anyone visiting or living there. With this in mind, I created a five-step testing process that examined everything from a service’s general performance to its usability. Here’s a quick rundown of the areas I focused on:
- Speed: Slow speeds make even the simplest tasks a huge hassle. I carried out multiple speed tests at different times of day using each VPN’s American servers and a 250 Mbps connection, since that’s the average US broadband speed and should reflect the real-world experience of Comparitech’s readers.
- Network suitability: I scored providers on how many Asian countries — including Bangladesh — they supported. I also took into account the overall size of their networks and their ability to access geo-restricted services.
- Security and privacy: Providers were scored based on how robust their privacy offerings were. This involved looking into over a dozen individual factors, including which protocols are supported, which safeguards are included, and what kind of information is logged.
- Ease of use: Your VPN should be a pleasure to use, not something you dread. I identified the most intuitive, beginner-friendly VPNs by checking for features like 24/7 support, a generous connection limit, automatic obfuscation, and streaming-optimized servers.
- Value for money: Finally, I made sure that each VPN was really worth the cost by evaluating their functionality compared to similarly-priced competitors. I also hunted for student discounts, looked at promotional sale frequency, and more.
You can learn more about my testing process in the methodology section at the bottom of this post. For now, let’s focus on the VPN providers that stood out.

NordVPN is my first choice VPN for Bangladesh. It has more than 8,000 RAM-only servers in 120 countries, including the country’s capital, Dhaka, meaning it’s one of the few VPNs that can provide a Bangladesh IP address. Additionally, it’s able to get around just about any online restriction, so whether you’re hoping to evade country-wide censorship or stream your favorite TV show on vacation abroad. Users can connect up to 10 devices simultaneously and get help via 24/7 live chat.
NordVPN regularly outperforms its rivals where speed is concerned, so it’s safe to say I had high expectations. After three speed tests, this service delivered an average speed of 199.83 Mbps with less than 0.5 Mbps of variability. That’s an extremely reliable set of results, so you shouldn’t have any issues performing data-intensive tasks like watching TV, torrenting, or playing games. See for yourself:
Security and privacy are NordVPN’s major strengths. It doesn’t keep any logs of your activities and ensures your anonymity using unbreakable encryption, DNS and IPv6 leak protection, and a customizable kill switch. It blocks ads and trackers, can sidestep even the world’s most stringent digital censorship, and will alert you if your personal information is posted on the dark web. There are also special multi-hop servers capable of encrypting your traffic twice. This VPN accepts gift cards and cryptocurrency, making it nice and easy to sign up anonymously.
Apps are available for Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, and macOS. You can also manually install NordVPN on most routers (check the website for instructions).
Buy this VPN if:
- You need servers specifically in Dhaka to get a local Bangladesh IP
- You want the fastest tested speeds in this list for stable streaming and VoIP
- You’d like a VPN capable of beating deep packet inspection
- You care about jurisdiction (Panama) and a fully audited no-logs approach
- You want the highest unblocking rate to access home streaming libraries
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You want to select specific servers (NordVPN only allows city-level selection)
BEST VPN FOR BANGLADESH:NordVPN is my top choice VPN. It’s quick, adept at bypassing regional restrictions, and packed with powerful security features. Best of all, every subscription comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee so you can try it risk-free.

Surfshark is the top low-cost VPN for anyone visiting Bangladesh. It has a network spanning more than 100 countries, a complete lack of connection limits, and 24/7 customer support via live chat. This VPN excels at beating regional restrictions too, easily unblocking stubborn platforms like Netflix, ITVX, BBC iPlayer, and Peacock abroad. There’s even a toggleable NoBorders mode designed to help you browse safely in countries like China or Bangladesh, where the internet is heavily censored.
I tested Surfshark’s US servers in the morning, at noon, and in the afternoon to see just how quick they really were. With an average speed of 195.32 Mbps, it’s capable of handling any day-to-day task with ease. Better still, there was only around 12 Mbps of difference between its highest and lowest results, so you can count on a consistently fast connection. Take a look at the full test results:
Surfshark provides a surprisingly powerful set of security features given its low price. Its toolkit includes a kill switch that stops sending data if your connection drops, unbreakable encryption, and automatic DNS and IPv6 leak protection. This VPN doesn’t keep any logs and has been audited to prove it. Recently, it added a content filter capable of blocking ads, adult content, and trackers, helping make the internet a slightly safer place for your family. Accepts cryptocurrency payments.
Surfshark apps are available for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android. This service can also be manually installed on supported internet routers.
Buy this VPN if:
- You need a low-cost option that has Bangladesh server locations
- You plan to protect lots of gadgets (unlimited simultaneous connections)
- You’d like to be able to browse safely wherever you go
- You want to sign up with a throwaway email + crypto payments
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You require specialized streaming-optimized servers

Total VPN operates more than 1,800 servers covering 80+ countries around the world, including Bangladesh. Whether you’re hoping to sidestep government censorship, stream your favorite shows, or chat privately with friends, this service is up to the task. Users are permitted up to five simultaneous connections, and if anything goes wrong, there’s an easy-to-use support ticket system on the website.
You’d be surprised to learn how many VPNs are too slow for even basic tasks. To make sure I only recommend the best of the best, I performed multiple speed tests on Total VPN’s American servers (one in the morning, one at noon, and one in the afternoon). Let’s take a look at those results:
As you can see, Total VPN’s average speed was an impressive 181.49 Mbps when tested on a 250 Mbps connection. This is more than ten times the speed required for streaming 4K video, so you’ll be able to perform virtually any task without any problems. There was only 12 Mbps of difference between its highest and lowest results too, so this is one of the more consistent services on the market.
If you’re looking for a service that can keep you safe with minimal fuss, Total VPN is perfect. It boasts easy-to-use apps and all of its security features are enabled by default, including uncrackable encryption, a no-logs policy, DNS, and IPv6 leak protection, and a kill switch (though this isn’t available on Windows just yet). There’s also split tunneling functionality and support for the Hydra protocol. This last feature is particularly helpful if you plan on using networks that usually block VPN traffic outright.
Total VPN apps are available for Android, Windows, iOS, and macOS.
Buy this VPN if:
- You specifically want Bangladesh servers plus broad Asia coverage
- You value consistent speeds with little variance for 4K streaming
- You’d like extras bundled in (ad-blocker, password manager, antivirus)
- You need the Hydra protocol to connect to networks that usually block VPNs
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You need more than five simultaneous connections
- You need a rock-solid live chat (support is via tickets)
FAST, VERSATILE VPN:Total VPN has what it takes to keep you safe online, with powerful privacy features and ultra-high speeds. Easy-to-use apps and a 30-day money-back guarantee on annual plans (or a 14-day guarantee with every short-term subscription).

ProtonVPN has 15,000 servers in total, spread across 120 countries, with roughly two dozen in Bangladesh. It’s great for live streaming too; you’ll be able to access local and international services like Netflix, ATN Bangla, or Disney+ wherever you are in the world. Of course, there are also servers designed for torrenting, browsing the dark web, or browsing with maximum anonymity. ProtonVPN permits up to 10 simultaneous connections and provides around-the-clock support over live chat.
Speed determines everything from how quickly websites load to the max resolution of videos you can play. I tested ProtonVPN’s American servers multiple times, resulting in an average speed of 134.55 Mbps with just 7 Mbps of variability. That’s a consistent, high-speed connection quick enough for any day-to-day task.
This service is known for its strong privacy focus. By default, it uses 256-bit ChaCha20 encryption (which experts agree is currently uncrackable). This is further strengthened with a no-logs policy, IPv6, and DNS leak protection, a kill switch, and a tool that blocks trackers and ads automatically. There’s also split tunneling and port forwarding support, as well as a Stealth mode that can beat most forms of VPN-blocking (though it won’t work in China, unfortunately). Finally, you may want to try its Secure Core servers — these are slower but are kept in high-security datacenters and encrypt your data twice for greater protection.
ProtonVPN offers apps for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux. Additionally, it can be manually configured to work with most home routers.
Buy this VPN if:
- You want granular control to choose specific servers (including a couple dozen in Bangladesh)
- You need Secure Core for extra protection against targeted monitoring
- You’d prefer to pay with cash or Bitcoin
- You value the Stealth protocol to get around routine VPN blocks
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You need a VPN that works consistently in China
- You require extensive streaming capabilities
STRONG SECURITY:ProtonVPN offers a first-class security package, impressive performance, and a stellar customer support team. It won’t be stopped by most forms of digital censorship, and if you upgrade to a paid plan, you’ll get a 30-day money-back guarantee.

ExpressVPN is a newcomer-friendly service with plenty to offer, from a network covering 105 countries to its exceptional streaming ability. Users can quickly get an IP address from Bangladesh or nearby places like India and Singapore, and don’t worry: this VPN automatically obfuscates your connection in China and other high-censorship countries. Live chat-based support is available 24/7, and you can connect 10 devices on the Basic plan (or up to 14 with a higher-tier subscription).
Next, I wanted to make sure that this VPN was really fast enough for watching your favorite shows on platforms like Hulu or Disney+. After a day of testing, ExpressVPN achieved an average speed of 144.57 Mbps, with an unnoticeable 4 Mbps of fluctuation. That’s an exceptional result, even for a well-known provider like this.
ExpressVPN simplifies digital security by enabling most of its privacy tools as standard. These include uncrackable encryption, IPv6 and DNS leak protection, and a kill switch, with obfuscation kicking in as needed in countries where the internet is heavily surveilled or censored. You can, however, activate its ad and tracker-blocking tool, stop adult content from showing up online, or let specific apps pass through the VPN unencrypted. ExpressVPN doesn’t log any personally identifiable data.
This service also has its own connection protocol called Lightway. This was designed to be a lightweight, faster, more secure alternative to OpenVPN. It’s open-source, results in lower speed loss when using distant servers, and can keep you safe even while switching between wifi and mobile data.
This service now has a tier-based pricing system. Basic plans now start at just $3.49 per month, with Advanced plans costing $4.49 monthly and Pro plans costing $7.49 monthly. Though this is still not the cheapest option on the market, it is a lower price than ever before, and you’ll get a higher connection limit too (10-14 devices).
ExpressVPN has apps for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux. This service also offers its own router firmware and a Smart DNS service for anyone who wants to access US-only services on devices without VPN support, like games consoles.
Buy this VPN if:
- You want proven reliability across Bangladesh and nearby hubs
- You’ll use Smart DNS to access services on devices that don’t support VPNs
- You value polished, uniform apps with feature parity on desktop and mobile
- You want 24/7 live chat that actually resolves streaming roadblocks
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You’re looking for the cheapest VPN option
- You want specialized servers for specific tasks
BROWSE SECURELY ANYWHERE:ExpressVPN can help you browse freely from anywhere in the world. Works with most streaming sites and sidesteps censorship with ease. No-fuss security and a 30-day money-back guarantee on all plans.

IPVanish really is something special. This VPN owns its entire network outright, meaning nobody else ever has access to user traffic. There are 3,200 servers in 100+ locations, with plenty in Bangladesh and other countries in Asia. Not only that, IPVanish works perfectly with stubborn streaming services like BBC iPlayer, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. There are no connection limits, and staff are ready to help at any time over live chat, phone, or email.
Is IPVanish fast enough for streaming Bangladesh TV? I put it to the test, running performance checks in the morning, at midday, and in the afternoon on a 250 Mbps connection. IPVanish returned an average speed of 164.98 Mbps with less than 7 Mbps of fluctuation throughout the day. That’s not half bad, and well above what’s needed for watching live broadcasts, torrenting, or playing online games.
This service is based in the United States, but don’t let that put you off; it follows an independently audited no-logging policy, meaning it can’t reveal details of your activities even in the face of legal pressure. IPVanish also boasts unbreakable encryption, a kill switch, leak protection, and a combined ad and tracker blocker. It recently added multi-hop servers that encrypt your data twice and a link safety checker too, so IPVanish is clearly committed to expanding its privacy toolkit.
IPVanish apps are available for macOS, iOS, Windows, and Android, and these are all easily navigable whether you’re using a mouse, a finger, or a remote control. You can also manually install this VPN on Linux systems and most routers.
Buy this VPN if:
- You like that the provider owns and operates its entire server network
- You’re a Kodi user who wants a remote-friendly interface
- You need unlimited simultaneous connections for a full household of devices
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You frequently travel to China (IPVanish doesn’t work reliably there)
- You want a non-US-based provider
NO CONNECTION LIMIT:IPVanish is great for families as it allows unlimited connections. Excels at unblocking regional content and refuses to keep any logs. Sizeable network and 24/7 support. Long-term subscriptions include a 30-day money-back guarantee.

CyberGhost boasts a level of user-friendliness that is unmatched by most other VPNs on the market. Not only does this provider have servers in 100+ countries, but it also tells you which is best for your needs. There are servers designed for streaming, torrenting, gaming, getting a dedicated IP address, and maximizing your privacy. In my professional experience, support staff are helpful and quick to respond, so you can get help day or night. There is a seven-connection limit, though, which is lower than some of the other VPNs on this list offer.
A sluggish VPN is of no use to anybody, which is why I tested CyberGhost’s American servers several times. This provider delivered an average speed of 133.76 Mbps, which is almost 10 times the recommended speed for streaming 4K video. It was highly consistent too, speeds only varying by 7 Mbps throughout the day. You shouldn’t notice any performance issues, even during peak times. Take a look:
CyberGhost doesn’t play around when it comes to security. This service offers 256-bit ChaCha20 encryption, protection against IPv6 and DNS leaks, a kill switch, and a repeatedly verified no-logs policy. This is actually only the beginning, however. Its toolkit also includes an ad and tracker blocker, split-tunneling functionality, and the ability for CyberGhost to connect on its own in certain situations. It also has a feature that hides the fact you’re using a VPN by sending data over a random port. That’s enough to beat anti-VPN systems on public hotspots, but won’t help in China.
You can access CyberGhost on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. Alternatively, its website provides step-by-step installation guides for anyone hoping to use CyberGhost on a router.
Buy this VPN if:
- You’d rather be told which server is best for a given task
- You require built-in ad blocking, anti-malware, and anti-tracking features
- You’re searching for a no-logs VPN with real streaming potential
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You need a VPN that works reliably in China
- You need more than 7 simultaneous connections
BEGINNER FRIENDLY:CyberGhost is fast and easy to use, even if you’re new to VPNs. Takes the stress out of browsing and streaming safely in Bangladesh. Great set of security tools and 24/7 customer support. Annual plans come with a 45-day money-back guarantee.

PureVPN offers access to more than 6,500 servers in 65 countries, Bangladesh included. Its apps are extremely newcomer-friendly, and if you move on over to the Shortcuts tab, you can even see which servers are optimized for accessing streaming apps like Netflix or BBC iPlayer. PureVPN lets users connect 10 devices at the same time and provides around-the-clock support via live chat.
PureVPN has a reputation for being extremely quick, though it seems to have slowed a little in recent times. Nevertheless, its average speed of 118.71 Mbps is still very good and more than able to support interruption-free streaming and VoIP calls.
Believe it or not, PureVPN was the first service to be professionally-audited. Since then, it’s had several more audits, all of which confirm one thing: PureVPN doesn’t keep any logs. Your data is shielded from snoopers by way of powerful encryption, a kill switch, and protection against DNS and IPv6 leaks, as well as a tool that blocks ads and trackers automatically. OpenVPN traffic is obfuscated by default, so this is the protocol you’ll want to use in countries like Bangladesh or China.
PureVPN has its own Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, and iOS apps. Its website provides manual setup instructions for a wide range of routers so you can beat the 10-device limit.
Buy this VPN if:
- You need automatic traffic obfuscation in high-surveillance environments
- You need reliable performance in extremely censored regions
- You’d feel better with 24-hour access to customer support
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You require anonymous payment options (no cryptocurrency support)
- You need advanced customization options
STAY SAFE ABROAD:PureVPN has everything you’ll need to browse the web freely in Bangladesh. It’s fast, secure, and has a true no-logs policy, plus it works with just about every region-locked service I tested. All plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee.

PrivateVPN is a strong performer with roughly 200 self-owned servers in 60+ countries. That’s a smaller network than some of the other providers I’ve covered, but all of this VPN’s hardware is owned, hosted, and managed in-house for maximum protection. This service was engineered specifically for torrenting, can reliably access major streaming platforms from abroad, and even works in places with extreme censorship. Permits up to 10 simultaneous connections and offers 24/7 live chat.
PrivateVPN is generally a little slower than providers higher in this list. All the same, with an average speed of 55.95 Mbps, it’s fast enough to provide silky smooth streaming, with no buffering or disconnections. There was less than 5 Mbps of variance too, meaning it’s perfect for tasks where a steady connection is key, like gaming or taking part in video calls. Here are my full test results:
This provider uses unbreakable encryption, but it’s up to you to decide whether you want quicker speeds (128-bit AES) or maximum security (256-bit AES). It also has a kill switch so you don’t browse unprotected after a sudden disconnection, and DNS and IPv6 leak protection. PrivateVPN has a zero-logs policy, and while it hasn’t been audited, it’s been able to reliably sidestep censorship in China, Bangladesh, and the UAE for years. Simply put, if it were possible to find out what PrivateVPN users get up to online, one of these governments would have managed by now.
PrivateVPN offers apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. It also provides manual setup instructions for popular Linux distros and router firmware.
Buy this VPN if:
- You’re primarily focused on torrenting (designed specifically for P2P)
- You need a VPN that’s quick and able to bypass extreme censorship
- You want the option to drop the encryption level for speed boosts
Don’t buy this VPN if:
- You need servers specifically in Bangladesh (no local presence)
- You want a large server network
PRIVACY-FOCUSED:PrivateVPN has what it takes to keep you safe. Works in Bangladesh and other countries where censorship is rife. Provides reasonable speeds and a generous 10-connection limit. Plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Using a free VPN in Bangladesh
Free VPNs exist in abundance, and you will likely come across a few during your VPN search. However, use such providers at your own peril.
To evade social media restrictions and other clampdowns on the web in Bangladesh, you need a VPN service that uses foolproof encryption and location-evading tech. Free VPNs aren’t at the same level as the recommended services on this list; they use poor encryption protocols, have a choice of maybe one or two servers, and will enforce data caps. Yes, they seem tempting because there’s no upfront payment involved, but that’s just a ruse to make money off you in the long run.
There are many examples of free services that have unethically mined user data to sell for a profit, or leveraged idle bandwidth to build a botnet army. At the very least, you can expect a lot of invasive advertisements. I don’t recommend that you go down this path. Keep yourself safe and secure on the web by using a paid service; a couple of dollars will go a long way to ensuring peace of mind.
How to set up a Bangladesh VPN
Setting up a VPN for the first time is simple. Follow my step-by-step instructions below, and you’ll be able to keep your online activities secure and access all your favorite content online in no time.
Here’s how to use a VPN in Bangladesh:
- Register with a VPN service – (I recommend NordVPN.)
- Download the relevant VPN app for your device.
- Choose one of the VPN’s servers. For privacy, any server will work, but to access regional content, choose a server outside of Bangladesh (for example, you would use a US server to securely access American Netflix)
- Try to access your usual service (you may need to clear your cookies for changes to take effect).
- Enjoy unrestricted content and enhanced security.
- NordVPN has a 30-day money-back guarantee. This means canceling before this period will give you a full refund, effectively making it free.
- If you encounter any issues, you can try a few things. First, clear your browser cache and cookies. Following that, try connecting to a different server. If problems persist, reach out to customer support.

How free and open is the Bangladeshi internet?
The first signs of trouble in Bangladesh emerged after the passage of the 2006 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) act. Applied for the first time in 2013, it was used by the government to arrest four bloggers who had voiced concerns over the rising tide of religious extremism and other social issues. Penalties under the law were increased the same year, ranging from incarceration of a minimum of 7 years up to a maximum of 14. The same amendment also allowed police to make arrests without seeking prior warrants.
In 2015, there was even more violence. A number of fatal attacks by extremists targeting online bloggers, along with the arrest of prominent journalist Probir Shikdar, led to an ‘environment of fear’ as described by advocacy body Freedom House. This forced netizens in Bangladesh into an environment of self-censorship.
A further crackdown on the internet was witnessed between 2016 and 2017. A total of 35 news websites were blocked by the government on a baseless charge of being biased towards the opposition party. 300 people were also arrested under the same ICT laws as mentioned earlier, with some remaining in state custody for several weeks.
With the Awami League now banned, Bangladesh is beginning to witness slow improvements to its overall freedom index. However, according to Freedom House, this is mostly because the interim government is slowly introducing more transparent processes and isn’t quite so outwardly authoritarian. There is still work to be done, and self-censorship remains rampant.
If you’re a blogger, social media commentator, journalist, or whistleblower in Bangladesh, it is likely that your communications are being monitored. For further clarity on this topic, read Comparitech’s guide to blogging safely.
Online gambling is technically illegal in the strictly Muslim country, but laws are rarely enforced. However, the government has shown itself to be intolerant towards online activity in the past, and it could very well use prevailing laws to further impinge on internet freedoms. You can use a VPN to stay safe.
Disclaimer: Although Comparitech has spent hours researching this topic, nothing above should be taken as legal advice. Comparitech encourages you to consult local laws or perhaps even seek a professional’s opinion before attempting to use a VPN if you’re not completely sure that doing so is legal in your country.
How to securely access Netflix in Bangladesh
Netflix is technically available all over the world, but the library of content varies greatly between each country. This is because of copyright laws and restrictions. If you log in to Netflix from Bangladesh, you’ll be directed to the local library regardless of whether the account was registered in another country. For people traveling in Bangladesh, the only way around this restriction is to use a VPN first. For example, if you want to regain access to US Netflix, connect to a US VPN server.
Netflix has been at war with VPNs for some time now. As such, not all VPNs work with the streaming media behemoth. If you encounter any problems, it’s best to speak with customer support for each individual VPN. In most cases, they’ll be able to direct you to a server that works.
VPNs for Bangladesh: FAQ
How can I avoid internet censorship in Bangladesh?
The Bangladeshi government implemented the Digital Security Act in 2018. Like laws used to suppress dissent in other countries, it’s ambiguously worded, which makes it flexible enough to arrest just about anyone for extremely minor infractions. This law also allows the government to block certain types of content, which it has done judiciously in the years following.
It’s fairly easy to bypass online blocking with the help of the right VPN. Not just any will work, though, as some countries and services use deep packet inspection to identify the signs of VPN traffic. Instead, you’ll need a service with obfuscation or some kind of stealth mode, since these will make your data resemble regular, everyday web traffic. Remember: it’s best to consult local laws before attempting to use a VPN in a foreign country.
How can I watch live cricket with a VPN?
If you’re traveling abroad and can’t access your usual sports streaming services, don’t panic! Most of the time, these services have checked your IP address and realized you’re outside of their broadcast areas. To fix this, simply connect to a VPN server in your home country — this will hide your true location and make it seem like you never left.
Before you try again, make sure to clear your cookies and cache! This forces websites and apps to forget any old location data and solves the most common problems you’d otherwise run into. When you’re ready, try accessing your preferred service again. This time, you should be able to stream as much cricket as you like!
Is it legal to use a VPN in Bangladesh?
Yes. VPNs are not restricted in Bangladesh, and it is completely legal to have a VPN subscription and to use a VPN on your devices. That said, the government of Bangladesh has been known to block and censor certain online services at times (including Facebook). When the government blocks online services, it usually does so under the guise of national security. As a result, you could technically be in breach of the law if you use a VPN to access those purposefully censored services, and you could face penalties.
Thus, it is what you choose to do with a VPN rather than using a VPN that could be in breach of the law. What is certain is that using a VPN to engage in any criminal activities is still against the law, and you could be prosecuted. That’s why it’s crucial to stay informed, use your VPN responsibly, and choose a VPN with a strict no-logs policy to maintain your online privacy.
