This changes your Samsung Smart TV’s location and enables it to bypass content restrictions. Note, however, that it doesn’t encrypt your traffic or hide your IP address.

How to set up a Smart DNS with a Samsung TV (Tizen OS)

Manually configuring a VPN connection with a router is often a little complicated. Fortunately, setting up a Smart DNS with your Samsung TV is simpler.

Here’s how to set up a Smart DNS with Tizen OS:

1. Visit your VPN provider and sign in (or sign up if you don’t yet have a VPN subscription).
2. Locate and activate the Smart DNS feature in your VPN’s settings.
3. Turn on your Samsung Smart TV and press the Home (menu) button on your remote.
4. Navigate through Settings > General > Network > Network Status > IP Settings.
5. Select DNS setting and Enter manually to enter your VPN Smart DNS IP address.

Finding the best VPNs for Samsung Smart TV: our methodology

To find the best VPNs for Samsung Smart TV, we carried out a range of tests that covered everything from speed to security.

Speed

If you want to stream in high definition on your Samsung Smart TV, you’ll need a VPN that’s up to the job. We carried out multiple speed tests while connected to each provider’s US servers. Measurements were taken using the desktop version of the Ookla speed-testing app.

The results were averaged and converted to a score out of 10 relative to the other providers. Note that we rate-limited our base connection speed to 250 Mbps to better approximate the experience of the average home broadband speed in the US.

We started by scoring providers on whether they were compatible with popular router models. Next, we scored them according to whether they offered a Smart DNS service. Finally, we scored them on their ability to unblock a range of streaming platforms.

These scores were weighted and then combined to generate an overall score out of 10 for each provider. This makes a side-by-side comparison possible, as the chart below demonstrates.
