How to watch Poldark Season 5 abroad

Poldark season 5 will be Aidan Turner’s final outing as the eponymous Poldark, and will run for eight episodes. Below, we’ll let you know how to stream Poldark online free, wherever you are in the world.

You should note that we’ll only be recommending official sources. While unlicensed streaming sites often offer popular shows like Poldark, we don’t recommend using them. The video is often low-resolution, to begin with but you might also find it’s laggy or has out-of-sync audio. Additionally, these streams are often taken down by copyright holders, meaning you might not even get to see the end of the episode. As this season will be available for free anyway, there’s no need to resort to unauthorized streaming sites.

To watch Poldark season 5 for free while abroad, you’ll need a VPN to access your usual home services.

How to stream Poldark abroad with a VPN provider

New to VPNs and not sure how to get started? Just follow the steps below to bypass regional restrictions and stream Poldark season five from anywhere in the world.

Here’s how to watch Poldark online from anywhere:

  1. First, sign up to a suitable VPN service. We recommend NordVPN as the best VPN for streaming, although ExpressVPN and CyberGhost are both excellent, low-cost options too.
  2. Download and install the VPN app. There will be several different versions, so make sure to get the right one for your device.
  3. Decide which of the services below you’d like to us and create an account.
  4. Connect to a VPN server in the relevant location. For example, you should use a British server to unblock BBC iPlayer or a US server for PBS.
  5. Try loading a video on your chosen service. It should begin almost immediately but if not, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies before refreshing the page.

How to watch Poldark season 5 for free on UK TV

Poldark originally aired on BBC One, which means you can watch it online on BBC iPlayer or TVPlayer.com. Both of these services are free, although whichever you choose, you’ll have to create an account first. You’ll be asked to provide a postal code, but this isn’t actually used to verify your location, and any British postal code will work. Afterwards, just verify your email address, log in, and start streaming.

It’s also worth mentioning that Poldark season 5 won’t reach the US until several months after it’s shown in the UK. If you can’t wait that long or are worried about seeing spoilers before the show is aired in your country, you can simply access these platforms from abroad with a VPN. Best of all, BBC iPlayer not only lets you stream shows live, it makes them available for 30 days after they air. This means that even if you have other plans when the show is on, you’ll still be able to stay up to date.

British legislation requires you to have a TV license to watch anything (live or on-demand) on BBC iPlayer. However, neither platform actually checks this (BBC iPlayer occasionally displays a popup letting you know, but it’s fairly inconsistent) so it basically works on an honor system.

Where else can I watch Poldark season 5 online?

Poldark season 5 will likely air in several countries around the world, but not every broadcaster will allow you to watch online. Take a look below to see all of Poldark’s confirmed international broadcasters:

USA

Unfortunately, as in previous years, American fans have to wait longer than those in the UK to see Poldark, but will find the series available a few months later on PBS

There’s another catch: PBS doesn’t have a live stream. Instead, it uploads episodes for on-demand playback shortly after they air. While many of these shows can be watched for free, some (including Poldark) can only be watched by THIRTEEN Passport subscribers. This service costs $5 USD per month, but only accepts payment methods linked to an American address. As such, it’s almost impossible to sign up from abroad unless you usually live in the US.

If you have Amazon Prime Video, you can stream these episodes by signing up for the PBS Masterpiece addon. It costs $5.99 per month, and offers a one-week free trial. Both PBS and Amazon’s American content library are only available in the US, so you’ll have to use a VPN to access them abroad.

Other locations

At the moment, there are no further broadcasters confirmed to be showing Poldark season 5. More details will likely be released when the premiere date is announced, however. Don’t worry: even if the final series won’t be on TV in your country, there’s a good chance you’ll still be able to purchase it on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, or the Google Play Store.

Can I watch seasons 1–4 of Poldark online?

Several Netflix libraries include previous seasons of Poldark. For instance, every prior episode is available on Netflix Switzerland, and you can watch the first three seasons on Netflix UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Netflix offers a month-long trial, which means that with the right VPN (we recommend NordVPN for unblocking regional Netflix libraries), you can watch every episode of Poldark for free, wherever you are.

Unfortunately, watching season 4 is more difficult. Netflix Switzerland offers the whole season, so a Netflix 30-day trial and a VPN that unblocks the Swiss library could be a good option. Amazon Prime Video US offers season 4 as part of the PBS Masterpiece addon. Prime comes with a 30-day free trial, and PBS offers seven days free, so if you’re quick, you can stream the full season free of charge. However, in many countries, your only option will be to buy season 4 outright on a site like iTunes.

What do we know about season 5?

From the start, Poldark has been a compelling story with outstanding plotlines. Poldark is adapted from a series of 12 books by author Winston Graham. Seasons 1–4 covered roughly seven of these, and until recently, it was assumed that season five would continue the trend. However, book eight, “The Stranger From the Sea” begins 11 years after the events of the seventh.

Rather than begin a new story and risk leaving plot threads unresolved, the show’s writer Debbie Horsfield has decided to set season five during this gap between books. The official Poldark Twitter account recently posed this question: “If your country betrays you, to whom do you then owe loyalty?”.

Poldark season 5 cast

The show’s main cast remains largely unchanged from previous seasons (albeit with two characters missing as a result of the events of season 4). There are a few new additions too; take a look below to see who’ll be in Poldark’s fifth and final series:

  • Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark
  • Eleanor Tomlinson as Demelza Poldark
  • Jack Farthing as George Warleggan
  • Luke Norris as Dwight Enys
  • Caroline Enys as Gabriella Wilde
  • Kerri McLean (character as yet unnamed)
  • Sofia Oxenham as Tess
  • Vincent Regan (character as yet unnamed)
  • Freddie Wise (character as yet unnamed)
  • Peter Sullivan (character as yet unnamed)
  • Lily Dodsworth-Evans (character as yet unnamed)

Poldark Season 5 FAQs

Which beach is Poldark filmed on?

Poldark is set in Cornwall, so it’s only right that many of its key scenes were actually filmed in the region. In fact, the show highlights some of Cornwall’s most breathtaking beaches, including Porthcurno (Nampara Cove), Holywell Bay, and Kynance Cove.

What is the best British TV streaming service?

“Best” is a subjective term, but the most popular streaming services in the UK are Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, most major TV channels have their own streaming platforms, like All 4 and ITV Hub.

Is Poldark Season 5 the last?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there’ll be a sixth season of Poldark any time soon. That said, there is hope for fans, since producer Karen Thrussell has indicated that many of the show’s staff are up for bringing it back, although “it wouldn’t be for a few years yet.

In the meantime, there’s plenty to be getting on with. After all, season 5 took place in the 10-year time skip between books seven and eight. That means that there are six books in the series that still haven’t been adapted.

Does George Warleggan find out about Valentine?

It’s a bit abrupt, but yes, after an offhand comment from Agatha, George Warleggan correctly assumes that Ross is Valentine’s real father. Needless to say, he’s not best pleased and proceeds to do what he does best: lash out at those around him. This occurs in season 4, episode 7 of the TV show, and book seven of the series, The Angry Tide.
